About Major Robert W. Moore - Typed Letter Signed

ROBERT W. MOORE. Typed Letter signed: "Robert W Moore", 1p, 7¼x10½. Glasgow, Kentucky, 1990 September 7. On personal letterhead to William Stanhope, Albuquerque, New Mexico. In full: "This letter is in reply to your recent letter concerning my most memorial combat situation from World War II. As you surmised, I have been asked this question before and the draft article enclosed [item not included] should answer all your questions. Eric Hammel is writing a new book 'Aces Against Japan' or some similar title to be decided. The draft copy enclosed bears correction * but it will have to suffice since I do not have a corrected copy to be published 'as will be'. Hammell, and many other authors, have written novels highlighting events described by the participant at the time and the participants own language. This does make for interesting reading and seems to be the contemporary thing to do. You can watch the aviation trade magazines for a publication date on Hammel's book. Perhaps you will want to obtain a copy to follow up on this story. Best of luck to you. Very truly yours". Major Robert W. "Todd" Moore was the top ace of the Seventh Air Force during World War II. While flying 150 combat missions in 37 months in the Pacific, Moore shot down 12 enemy aircraft, including three in one 15-minute period (May 28, 1945) while escorting bombers over Yokohama, Japan. Lightly creased near top edge. Vertical fold crosses signature. Overall, fine condition. - Please contact us if you have any questions or require additional information. DOCUMENT 190265
