NORMAN ROCKWELL Norman Rockwell inscribed a book photograph from his biography. Book Photograph inscribed and signed: "My best wishes/to/Gil Moody/sincerely/Norman Rockwell". Color, 8½x11 overall, image 5x6½ (one surface). Page from the biography, Norman Rockwell, Illustrator, by Arthur L. Guptill, which was published in 1960, the same year as Rockwell published his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator. Illustration titled: "Tom Sawyer Switched for Talking to Huck Finn". Rockwell's caption: "These aren't easy poses for the artist's models to hold! It was such poses that made me first turn to the camera as a logical aid...Fred Hildebrandt was my model for the schoolmaster...It was fun picturing the girls so apprehensive and the boys so full of glee. N.R." Rockwell illustrated Heritage Press publications of two American classics written by Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens): The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1937) and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1940). American artist and illustrator Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) is best known for his realistic and humorous scenes of small town life in America. He painted over 300 covers for the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an illustrator for "Boy's Life". Lightly creased.
