DESCRIPTIONS

Oxalate/Oxalic Acid is a breakdown product of the Krebs Cycle in eukaryotes and the glyoxylate cycle in microbes. Typically present in mammalian urine, oxalate concentration can be used as a measure of kidney function. A high level of oxalate is an indicator for kidney stones, which are primarily made of calcium oxalate. Measuring oxalate is more accurate than measuring calcium as a marker for kidney stones because calcium is present at high concentrations even in normal urine. BioAssay Systems’ QuantiQuik Oxalate Quick Test Strips are based on the enzymatic oxidation of oxalate coupled with a color reaction. The color intensity is proportional to the oxalate concentration in the sample. Materials required but not provided: pipettes FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: What do I need to test urine with these strips? A: Urine samples need carbon powder, EDTA, and a centrifuge. We sell those separately. Q: My doctor said that I need to get my oxalate levels tested. Can I use this product with my urine? A: These strips are not for clinical use, and are for RESEARCH USE ONLY. This means that they should never be used for health-related decisions. Q: I didn't receive a protocol sheet with this kit. Where should I go to get for instructions? A: You can contact us for the pdf version of the protocol. Q: How should I store these strips? A: The strips can be stored at room temperature and kept away from heat/moisture. They have a shelf life of 6 months, and should be used within a week of opening. Q: My sample turns very dark blue, how can I determine the oxalate concentration? A: The oxalate is too high for the strip. Try diluting your sample in water, and multiply the result by the dilution factor.
