About Exploring Robotics With ROBOTIS Systems

Product Description This book presents foundational robotics concepts using the ROBOTIS BIOLOID and OpenCM-904 robotic systems, and is suitable as a curriculum for a first course in robotics for undergraduate students or a self-learner. It covers wheel-based robots, as well as walking robots. Although it uses the standard "Sense, Think, Act" approach, communications (bot-to-bot and PC-to-bot) programming concepts are treated in more depth (wired and wireless ZigBee/BlueTooth). Algorithms are developed and described via ROBOTIS' proprietary RoboPlus IDE, as well as the more open Arduino-based Embedded C environments. Additionally, web-based multimedia materials are used for illustrating robotics concepts, code implementations and videos of actual resulting robot behaviors. Advanced sensor interfacing for gyroscope, inertial measuring unit, foot pressure sensor and color camera are also demonstrated. The 2nd Edition of this book is available after August 2017, for more details please go to this link (amazon.com/Exploring-Robotics-ROBOTIS-Systems-Thai/dp/3319598309). Review Dear Chi N. Thai,First, I find it difficult to express my pleasure in reading your book by words, and I see it as a debt. I have been teaching in the city of Istanbul in Turkey. For about 6 years, I have been providing Robotis products and kindergarten, primary, middle and high school education. I'm so happy to see that there is another source than the ones that Robotis publishes. I bought your books, even a friend who is an IT teacher will buy it. I would like to point out that I have found your expressive language in your books and your sample designs as very useful. Your practical designs related to basic principles and concepts have created a great source for workshops and training with students and adults. I really appreciate your efforts about writing these great books.Sincereley, Hanefi Alper ALKAÇ (Educator) From the Author The example source codes can be downloaded from the Springer Extras web site: (extras.springer.com/2015/978-3-319-20417-8)To access the accompanying video tutorials, please visit the Springer Link web page for this book: link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-20418-5In each chapter, please click on the Supplementary Material tab to see the links to these video tutorials. Thai is a "retired" Associate Professor from the College of Engineering of the University of Georgia where he lectured undergraduate and graduate courses on Systems Modeling, Multispectral Machine Vision and Robotics. His formal training included B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, both at Northrop University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of California at Davis. He had done research in adaptive gear shifting for agricultural tractors, optimal hull design for boat tractors, characterization and modeling of quality of agricultural products using spectrometry, and hyperspectral imaging for plant health sensing. His "retirement" activities involve training of middle and junior high school students using various ROBOTIS systems such as PLAY, DREAM and BIOLOID (cntrobotics.com/services).
