About Aquatic Arts 1 Live Cajun Dwarf Crayfish

The Cajun Dwarf Crayfish (Cambarellus shufeldtii) is a miniature freshwater crayfish with an outgoing personality and unique tan and black coloration, often along with green mottling. They look great with all kinds of fun aquarium décor! Dwarf crayfish are also known as mini lobsters, although true lobsters do not exist in freshwater. The Cajun Dwarf Crayfish is very similar to the Orange CPO Crayfish in appearance and behavior, aside from the obvious difference in color. Additionally, they are easy to care for, and feeding is simple - they feed on leftover food or almost any kind of fish food. Dwarf crayfish like this one are among our favorite invertebrates here at Aquatic Arts and an excellent choice for the nano tanks and planted tanks. They are larger than dwarf shrimp and tend to live much longer, but are still small enough to comfortably live in a tank as small as a 5 gallons. If you plan on attempting to breed your pair of crayfish, pay close attention to your tank parameters with the use of tools like a TDS meter and pH increaser or decreaser. Though this crayfish is small enough not to be a threat to most other tank inhabitants, they have on occasion gone after dwarf shrimp (such as Tiger Shrimp, Ghost Shrimp, etc.), so we can’t guarantee safety for dwarf shrimp when raising them in the same tank. Most cichlids and goldfish are aggressive toward crayfish, and bottom feeders should also be avoided. Thus, dwarf crayfish can only be kept in some community tanks with snails (like Olive Jade Mystery Snails, Nerite Snails, etc.) and fast moving fish (e.g. Harlequin Rasboras, Cherry Barbs, etc. CARE GUIDELINES: - Temperature: 60 - 82.4° F (16 - 28° C) - pH: 6.0 - 8.0 - KH: 6 - 12 dKH - Minimum tank size: 5 gallons - Average adult size: 1.6 inches (4 cm) - Average purchase size: 1/2 - 1 inch (1.3 - 2.5 cm)
