At first, I was hesitant. A friend asking me to "Check out his/her band" has never turned out to be a good thing. Usually it's a powerhouse of poorly tuned/played instruments or noise that's just unbearable. PlasticBag FaceMask, however, turned out to be a shock. In the world of Grindcore and Metal, we often find ourselves sifting through bands that are in it for the kicks and those who are passionate about what they do. The Family Portrait combines elements of Mathcore, Deathcore, and Sludge into a very complex yet comfortable blend. At no point is anything in this album stressed. It makes even the harshest brutality become almost a soothing movement of passion for the music. Many bands try to force a message, instill a mindset amongst their listeners which in my opinion, ultimately deteriorates the experience of listening. The Family Portrait, put simply; flows. Combining a range of sounds from harsh nose, to sounds that resemble Daughters, James Doesn't Exist, and The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. With this release, PlasticBag FaceMask have made it apparent to listeners that they are a new breed of Metal. The Family Portrait 9.5/10 --Alex Cochran
