Acrylic Sphere/Plexiglass Ball - Transparent/Clear Features

  • Excellent low cost alternative to glass with half the weight and 10 time the impact strength

  • Acrylic's excellent optical clarity does not darken or deteriorate from exposure to UV light, and transmits up to 92% of light with a refractive index of approximately 1.49

  • Typical uses include aquariums, viewing ports, furniture accessories, chandeliers, and exterior lights of automobiles.

  • Notable trade names include Acrylite, Lucite, PerClax, R-Cast, Plexiglas, Optix, Perspex, Oroglas, Altuglas, Cyrolite, and Sumipex

  • Acrylic, is also known as Polymethyl Methacrylate or PMMA

  • Acrylic is simple to clean and polish using a clean cloth and cleaning compounds. It is possible to remove light scratches from acrylic with special abrasive compounds.

  • Light transmission is the technical term for transparency to light. Clear Acrylic has a 92 percent light transmittance rate — one of the highest light transmission rates possible. Most acrylic plastics will allow light of wavelength greater than 375 nm to pass through the material, but they will not allow UV-C wavelengths (100–290 nm) to pass through. Even very thin acrylic sheets of less than 5 millimeters (mm) do not let UV-C light penetrate.

About Acrylic Sphere/Plexiglass Ball - Transparent/Clear

Acrylic, also known as Polymethyl Methacrylate or PMMA, is a durable, lightweight thermoplastic material. Acrylic can be produced in both transparent and opaque colors. Physical Properties: -Acrylic has 10 times the impact strength and half the weight of glass. A density of 1.17 - 1.20 g/cm³, which is less than half that of glass but scratches easily compared to glass. -Acrylic transmits up to 92% of visible light (3 mm thickness) and gives a likeness of about 4% from each of its surfaces on account of its refractive index (1.4914 at 587.6 nm). It filters ultraviolet (UV) light at wavelengths below about 300 mm. acrylic offers high light transmittance, even when exposed to prolonged moisture or total immersion in water, which does not significantly affect the optical properties. Acrylic has a maximum water absorption ratio of 0.3 - 0.4% by weight. Acrylic's Tensile strength decrease's with increased water absorption. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is relatively high at (5-10) x 10-5 /K. -Acrylic can be joined with cyanoacrylate (superglue), heat welding, or by solvents such as trichloromethane. -Acrylic is very stable in environmental conditions. However, it has a weak resistance to many chemicals and solvents and swells up and dissolves in many organic solvents. Its environmental constancy is superior to other plastics such as polystyrene and polyethylene. Therefore, acrylic is often the material of choice for outdoor applications. Tolerance: -Our grade 3 acrylic balls have a spherical tolerance within three thousands of an inch ( 0.003", 0.0762 mm ) and be within the specified diameter within plus or minus three thousands of an inch ( 0.003", 0.0762 mm )
