The poems in this collection are based on Greek myths and other classical sources. They take a contrary view of many of the stories told by the ancient Greeks and Romans of gods, heroes and beautiful maidens, which tends to pick up on their even darker sides. Because Greek and Roman mythology is considered slightly arcane at present a brief explanation is given of the story behind each poem - not so much to help understanding as to give some idea of what inspired the ideas being expressed.
