About Caribbean Music From Colombia
This CD features a collection of songs by three ensembles of Gaïteros recorded live on tour in Europe and Colombia. The music of the Gaïteros blends the Indian gaita flutes and the African alegre drums with versified Creole songs, sometimes sustained by an alto sax or a clarinet. Cumbia, porro, puya, faroto, and merengue are the result of the blending of the mystical melodies of Caribbean origin with African rhythms. Nature, humor, and erotic games are some of the many themes of these songs.
