About A Day At The Park: Large Print Fiction For Seniors

Product Description Buy your loved one a simplified but enjoyable story, specially written for people with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or rehabilitating after a Stroke. Perfect for anyone facing challenges with memory or concentration but who still wants to be treated as an adult. Presented as ’normal’ 6x9 inch paperback book with a modern cover that looks similar to those used on James Patterson novels. A grandmother spends a wonderful day at the park with her granddaughter. They spend time feeding the ducks, play some games, share a picnic and might even meet a new friend in this perfect spring day. There is no mention of dementia anywhere on the cover or inside the book, so no indication to the reader that this is in anyway a ‘special needs’ book. Yet inside is where the magic happens. Over 6 chapters our central character explores their day. They meet and talk to people and make simple discoveries. An enjoyable and relevant story is told. Each chapter starts with a photograph that is relevant to the story and gives the reader with a helpful visual prompt. Short paragraphs are used with easy to read 16 point large print. This is helps the the reader avoid struggling with long paragraphs and stops them feeling overwhelmed by long chapters or confusing words. Jamie Stonebridge books are written in collaboration with people that have direct, positive experience of working with loved ones and patients that have dementia. They understand the enjoyment that can be gained from the simplicity of everyday events and the calming effect of a satisfying ending. The aim is always the same: to produce books that bring a smile. Real and relevant books give pride and confidence to people with Dementia. Avoid the embarrassment of using Childrens books and choose Senior Fiction instead. It is people like you that keep reading alive at all stages in a person’s life. We can all live through books. Reading alone or with others is a wonderful thing. Choose a a Jamie Stonebridge book that brings joy and happiness. If you find it helps your loved one, please let others know by writing a review. Review "As I work in a senior's residence and CHSLD/long-term care and housing center 40-hours a week, I see the effects of aging on many levels. I also see how different approaches can make great strides to reaching people. The population is aging and therefore having more resources available for seniors is an asset. So far, Jamie's senior fiction project has been well-received at my place of work. He is hoping that by spreading the word about the project, that more seniors can be touched by these books which can have a positive impact on their lives, especially if they are someone who has loved to read all their life and is now faced with difficulty when it comes to reading. These senior fiction books are written so that seniors can read them by themselves. However, with their short chapters (six per book), they also make for an easy read for someone who might need something to do with a senior, for example a visiting family member who is seeking an activity to do with a family member with declining memory. The simple wording also makes it possible for children to read them to family members. Books have a way of bringing together generations and I strongly believe that this senior's fiction project is one way that this is possible. Currently seniors in my workplace have had the opportunity to see Jamie's first senior's fiction book Trip to the Lake in their activity baskets. This tool can help to make a positive difference in their lives." - Le Felix Journal
