Product Description Standpipe by Jeff Murray Review "His Style is full of constant musical motion, complimented well with catchy vocal melodies. Hats off to Jeff Murray." -- Karl Russo, Soundcheck, January 2002 "Jeff's music is unpretentious and unblemished, in the tradition of Woody Guthhrie and later Bob Dylan." -- Billy Dare, The Musician's Trade Journal, December 1999 "With a commanding guitar technique,Jeff Murray is among one of the finest acoustic pickers Boston has to offer." -- Doug Sloan, Metronome, December 2001 About the Artist Hailing from the cutting-edge neo-folk scene of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Jeff Murray began playing guitar at age 10 and eventually studied at the famed Berklee College Of Music in Boston. In 2001, Jeff began busking for rent money and recorded his second album, Grimace, received radio play, and was featured on National Public Radios Hear And Now. Weaving delicate guitar playing with introspective lyrics and honest wit, Standpipe features Jeff Murrays off-kilter perspective on relationships and life. Backed by rhythmic organ and drums on songs like "That I Can" and "Wire," Jeffs earthy vocals plead the cause of someone doing his best even as hes left twisting in the wind by an ex-lover, robbed of dignity and grace. On Standpipe, Jeff Murray also shows versatility as an instrumentalist, laying down tasteful licks on dobro, lapsteel, mandolin, and harmonica that may remind listeners of John Fahey. Tracks like "Short Stepping" are particularly telling of Murrays talents as a creative, subtle picker. Above all else, Standpipe is testimony to a songwriter whos able to open up himself and express feelings of love, betrayal, confusion, loss and joy with a vision thats at once personal and universal, and always inspired.
