About London England Birds-eye Prospect City View 1719

London (England, United Kingdom) Issued 1719, Frankfort, Germany for A. M. Mallet Charming early 18th century copper engraved map. With pleasing full hand color. Delightfull little view with numerous natives and dogs in the foreground, Thames River with a single major bridge over it and numerous spires. Countless dozens of tiny individual buildings represented schematically. The image has a near folk-art feel, a style of cartographic image quite unique to this time in history. Utterly unlike anything produced today and of modern aesthetic appeal for this very reason. Also, the small size lends a feeling of intimacy, like a small near miniature jewel. Print paper and engraved area remains well preserved. Some light age wear or surface spotting/ soiling which is visible within the scan, nothing offensive or severe, overall remains clean and nice. Paper and image remains overall clean & sound. Old maps & prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous minor thin creases or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price. Charming little old antique map, very attractive and entirely worthy of hanging for display or giving as a present. Sheet measures c. 7 3/4 " H x 6 " W. Printed area measures c. 5 3/4" H x 4 " W Tooleys Dictionary of Mapmakers, v. 3. [R8282] A picture is worth a thousand words.
