Complete with a razor-sharp edge and solid aircraft-grade aluminum handle, this 5/8" Bowl Gouge From Carter and Son Toolworks is unique in its quality and sturdiness. The M42 Cobalt HSS blade is backed by a 16" aircraft aluminum handle to provide stability. The swooping fingernail grind on the Bowl Gouge prevents catching, making it very popular. Unlike any other tool on the market, the Bowl Gouge is fitted with a relief edge which reduces catching. The engineers and product developers at Carter and Son Toolworks believe that this unique addition to their tool lineup will dramatically enrich your turning. This massive tool has an overall length of approximately 26-1/4". USA About Carter and Son Toolworks Carter and Son Toolworks prides itself on producing well designed tools made from the highest quality materials. The tool blades are precision machined to high tolerances from solid M42 Cobalt High Speed Steel stock. Reinforced with the strength enhancing properties of Cobalt, M42 HSS maintains an edge extremely well, while still retaining easy sharpening properties. To further increase strength the blades are certified heat-treated to 68HRC. The blades have two flats where two securing set screws rest so that the screws do not rub the cylindrical surface of the bit, and the fit between tool and handle is within .002 of an inch. Combined with the heft and durability of the solid 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum handle, and the deep seating of the blade, this precision reduces to a minimum the enemies of all cutting tools - vibration and chatter. The handle is ergonomically shaped and well balanced to match the tool, while the upper portion is knurled for better gripping. Tool comes factory sharpened and ready for use. Made in the USA!
