About Mehano, 23016 Loco 4-6-4 HUDSON, NKP, Train

Please be aware that, rolling stock other than locomotives, is fully compatible with other brands. Locomotives are compatible, depending on power supply (DC or AC) DC locomotives can be used only on the DC track and AC locomotives only on the AC powered track. The first North American 4-6-4 locomotive was designed in 1925 from Milwaukee Road. They named the locomotive Milwaukee type but in some documents appeared also refering to Baltic. Soon after, the Milwaukee Road company went into bankruptcy and the plans for the loco were set aside. In November 1926 NYC started to experiment with their Pacifics equipped with a four-wheel trailing truck. At the same period they ordered one 4-6-4 from ALCO. The test results were so satisfactory to lead NYC to order 59 further Hudsons. Within 1937 NYC received 275 Hudsons, more than half of all Hudsons ever buit. Up to 1948, 487 locomotives were built from different builders. Hudsons benefit from nearly all new tecnical developments of that period, which made them a very successfull passenger unit. With the growing dieselization in the 40, Hudsons were moved from mainlines to a local lines or even to a freight service. AT&SF (Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway)
