About SKOLNIK Carbon Steel Tight Head Drum, 10

The SKOLNIK carbon steel tight-head drum has a non-removable top with 2" and 3/4" bung openings and plugs on opposing sides and can be used to store and transport hazardous liquids. The drum is made of carbon steel, which is resistant to impacts and wear. A synthetic rubber gasket helps prevent leaks. The drum has a storage capacity of 10 gallons, weighs 14 lb., and measures approximately 17" high and 14" in diameter. The wall of the drum is 0.9 mm thick. This product meets ASTM International criteria for carbon steel. It has a United Nations (UN) specification marking of 1A1/X1.4/250. (1A1 is the packaging code for a steel tight-head drum and X1.4/250 indicates that the product has met tests for Packing Groups I, II, and III at a specific gravity of 1.4 and a hydrostatic test pressure of 250.) Hazardous storage drums are used to safely store, transport, and dispose of hazardous materials. They are typically made of polyethylene or steel. Open-head drums have a removable lid and can store hazardous solids or liquids. Closed-head drums have a fixed top, can store hazardous liquids, and have bung holes for filling and pouring. Salvage drums, also known as overpack drums and recovery drums, can be used to store and transport smaller containers that hold hazardous materials and that are damaged or leaking. Certain drums may be incinerated along with the waste itself. Hazardous storage drums may meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal regulations and United Nations (UN) guidelines regarding the storage and shipment of hazardous materials. Hazardous storage drums are often assigned a UN code to indicate the container type, performance level, specific gravity, hydrostatic test pressure, and other information. Hazardous storage drums are used in a variety of industries involved with manufacturing, shipping, and environmental services. Skolnik Industries manufactures salvage drums, stainless-steel drums, carbon steel drums, wine barrels, and other industrial containers. The company, founded in 1985, is headquartered in Chicago, IL.
