About Minnesota A History Of The Land

Product Description "Minnesota: A History of the Land" is the original score composed by Peter Ostroushko for a four-episode public television docu-series from the award-winning producers of "Hoop Dreams" and "Liberty." The music vividly brings to life the epic story of the people and landscapes of a Midwestern state, but, like Grofé's "Grand Canyon Suite," its sounds are pure Americana and will know no regional boundaries in its appeal. From the retreat of the last ice sheets to our modern cities - this moving and magical score will deeply touch all who hear it and put everyone in a "Land of 10,000 Lakes" state of mind! Review "A player of miraculous ability!" -- Billboard "Breathtaking, technically brilliant music!" -- Relix About the Artist Born and raised in the Ukrainian community of Northeast Minneapolis, Ostroushko has made a 3 decade-long career as one of the finest mandolinist and fiddlers of his generation. Deftly combining American and Old World roots sounds with jazz and classical music he is one of those rare musicians who is identifiable from the first few notes he plays. A veteran sideman who has played with Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, John Hartford, James Galway and Taj Mahal, he is well known for his over 25 years as a frequent performer on American Public Media's "A Prairie Home Companion," and for a few seasons, he did a stint as Music Director for the popular radio show. He's also made TV appearances on "Austin City Limits," "Late Night with David Letterman" and "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." While not abandoning his folk roots, in recent years he has expanded his artistry as a soloist with symphony orchestras. His own compositions have been performed by the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Rochester Symphony Orchestra, the Des Moines Symphony and the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra, among others. His many public TV score contributions include "The Dakota Conflict," "Grant Wood's America." Ken Burns' "Lewis & Clarke: The Corps of Discovery" and "Mark Twain."
