About How Does It Feel

Product Description Before Women in Rock became a media mantra -- a Lilith-graced cottage industry -- there was Nancy. Before Heart got crazy on you, before Courtney found love and before Alanis had her first bad date, there was Nancy. There are also tracks here of assorted vintage that cry out Rock Radio Today -- first and foremost the melt-in-your-mouth "Sugar Me", plus "Candy Man," "Drummer Man" (featuring the great Hal Blaine) and the organ-driven "Happy", all which are infinitely more compelling than much of what her Lilith spawn apparently has to offer the airwaves of today. Amazon.com Forget the over-discussed topic of "women in rock." Frank's daughter was the single biggest threat to the '60s female status quo: with her melt-in-the-mouth blonde charm and undeniably decadent underside, hits like the outrageously kinky "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" and the enchanting "Some Velvet Morning" predated Blondie by a good decade. Working alongside collaborators Lee Hazlewood and Billy Strange, she melted many a teenage boy's heart with her ice-cool, world-weary voice. How Does It Feel? is a great starting point for new fans. A collection of passed-over gems and smooth covers, it includes a deliriously funky, laid-back "Like a Rolling Stone," a suitably sleazy "Walk on the Wild Side" (no, not that one!), and a lascivious showtime reading of "You're Gonna Make Love to Me." "Sweet Talkin' Candy Man," meanwhile, is pure Nilsson. How Does It Feel? is the perfect companion piece to the series of Hazlewood reissues on Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley's Smells Like Records. --Everett True
