About The Transforming Gospel: The Mission Of Francois

This is the story of the origins and growth of Protestant missions in central southern Africa. In 1833 the Paris Mission helped found the Christian Church of Lesotho; in the 1870s a second wave of French missionaries became convinced that Africans themselves could bring the good news to others on the continent. The author highlights the heroism and dedication of missionaries like François Coillard and his wife, and the fragile and often inadequate support from the minority groups of French-speaking Protestantism in Europe, caught up at the time in the throes of the church-versus-state debate. The Church of the Zambezi, in the area now known as Zambia, was firmly established by 1930 and became autonomous in 1964.
