While coloring their way through the digestive tract, children learn how their bodies process food: from chewing a first bite, to flushing away their poop. Understanding this particular body function is empowering for all children and reassuring for those struggling with bathroom anxiety and poop withholding. After seeing first hand that explaining digestion to her 3 year-old significantly reduced anxiety and poop withholding, author Lauren Gehringer decided to publish a simple, kid-friendly explanation of digestion for other families struggling with the same problem. However, the surprisingly broad audience feedback for picture book From Chewing to Pooing: Food's Journey Through Your Body to the Potty has shown that all children can benefit from better understanding this important body funciton, not just those suffering from chronic constipation and bathroom anxiety. The From Chewing to Pooing Coloring Book was adapted from picture book From Chewing to Pooing: Food's Journey Through Your Body to the Potty, to provide children with an immersive, hands-on introduction to their amazing inner bodies. It can be used to reinforce the picture book, or as a stand alone resource. From Chewing to Pooing materials are created in conjunction with pediatrician, Natalie Gehringer MD and award-winning illustrator Maile McCarthy.
