DESCRIPTIONS

The foundation of Scarperia, whose original name was Castel San Barnaba, dates back to 1306 at the behest of the Florentine Republic; the name became Scarperia because of its geographical position, that is, at the foot of the shoe. A Scarperia in those times along the main street were located craft activities necessities such as laboratories and workshops where they worked the iron and produced agricultural tools and knives. Processing and sale of knives and of Cutting characterized the productive activities Scarperia and, soon, this craft became one of the elements of expertise and reputation of the country, still known today as the "Land of Cutting Tools". In 1415 Scarperia became also the seat of the Vicariate and assumed administrative functions delegated by the Florentine Republic. The Palace, built as a fortress, turned into residence of the Vicar, hence the name "Palazzo dei Vicari" where in addition to architectural works, the frescoes and the heralds you can admire the clock by Filippo Brunelleschi, a unique jewel in his Typically, restored thanks to the contribution of the Group Sanpellegrino.
