About the Artist "Hanna's Reef" is a releatively new band, but the names of the players are very familiar. This band is essentially the original members of the band, "Key West". Featuring lead vocalist Mike Barnett, guitarist and songwriter Jerry Diaz, drummer Tim Bridges, keyboard player David Young, steel drum player Bob Brammer, and percussionist Bud Byram, the band is jouned by newcomers Kyle Aguilllard on bass, and Mike Baswell on harmonica. The band is dedicated to capturing that "Gulf Coast Days" sound that Key West became famous for. This collection of songs is mostly original tunes that have previously been released with Key West (but have since been discontinued), one new original song, and a few Jimmy Buffett cover tunes. The band is using this as a starting point for what it intends to be many, many more albums to come. Product Description The 'Texas Beach Music' we have learned to love has returned in it's full glory with 13 delightful songs! So good to hear the special sounds of the beach on a live CD. Mike nails it when he says in the opening song 'The name (band) has changed but the song remains the same'. Close your eyes, imagine you are in Margaritaville and take a journey to the Gulf Coast, 'Beach People, Beach Music' will surely take you for a nostalgic journey. The CD has something for everyone, some Buffett cover songs like Pencil Thin Mustache, some beach favorites and some songs that I had not heard before. There is even a song with a strong Cajun flavor and sailing music for those so inclined. Sunday Morning in New Orleans is a smooth ballad that alone is worth the price of the CD. A great band making beautiful 'Beach' music for all us Buffett/Parrothead/Island people! -Billy Peoples, AKA 'The Old Parrot Head' Like the first words on the CD 'The name has changed, but the song remains the same', this band sounds just like the original Key West - The Band. Actually, except for a new bass player & harmonica player, it is the original band! I had seen Hanna's Reef play a few times (once at the venue where the CD was recorded) before they recorded this CD and it was like hearing from old friends. For only having been reunited for a few months, this band was tight. They picked up right were they left off! The production crew did a great job capturing the band's real sound without losing the party athmosphere that breaks out at all Hanna's Reef shows. The only downside is that there were not more of the 'not quite released' songs of Jerry Diaz like: 'Rum in Pennsicola' and 'Watch the Young Girls Dance'. Guess I'll have to wait for the Studio CD rumored to be coming out in 2003! The cover art, by local artist Huanna Glass (see James, Sunny Jim, White's 'Sandbar Serenade' & 'Tropical Trader') is great and from what I hear inspired from the cult movie Reefer Madness. If you can't make it to a Hanna's Reef show and even if you can, this CD is a must have! -Don Walker, Galveston Bay Parrot Head Club Hanna's Reef is the premier 'Texas Beach Band'. Based out of the Galveston Bay-Port Arthur area, this band knows all about life on the Texas coast. In fact, the band's name comes from a popular fishing spot in Galveston Bay, near where the band members live. Hanna's Reef blends a mixture of classic Jimmy Buffett cover tunes with their own extensive catalog of original beach (and sailing) songs. And just for fun, they throw in other 'tropical' cover tunes to complete their repertoire. Hanna's Reef performs regularly throughout the Gulf Coast area, from Corpus Christi, TX, on over to Pensacola, FL. In addition, the band performs throughout the state of Texas. Their brand of 'fun in the sun', tropical music is always a welcome breath of fresh air wherever they perform. With eight members, the band is able to create a full blown 'luau' atmosphere on stage. They combine the tropical elements of steel drums and Latin percussion with the driving beat of a rock and roll band. But they don't forget their roots: you'll hear a little bit of 'Texas' music mixed in occasionally, as well as songs with a distinctive 'Cajun' influence, in their show.
