HOW BOVEDA FOR SEASONING WORKS: When you season a wood humidifier box with Boveda 84 packs, you’re filling the environment inside with water vapor. To fully season a 100-count wood humidifier box, it needs about 100 grams of water. Each Size 60 Boveda 84 releases about 35 grams of moisture. So use one seasoning packet for every 25 TOTAL items your box can hold. Over 14 days, Boveda 84% RH will raise the moisture to about 65% RH—without disturbing the integrity or the geometry of the wood.

Move your items back into your seasoned Spanish cedar humidifier box. Add new Boveda 72% RH maintenance packs (sold separately). NEVER MIX the 84% with any other %RH.

Having been in the industry more than 25 years, Boveda is a trusted & experienced brand in relative humidity control. But what does that even mean? Relative humidity (RH) refers to the percentage of humidity within an environment. In other words, it answers the question, 'how moist or dry is the air?' Before you use Boveda packs in a wooden container, you have to season the wood. Boveda scientists tested to find the safest, most effective seasoning method. We tried everything from 95% RH all the way down to 32% RH. At a low RH, seasoning takes longer. At a high RH, you risk damaging the wood. After trying them all, we found that 84% RH is just right. DO NOT wipe down the inside of your humidifier box with a wet cloth or sponge. It doesn’t humidify the wood. To fully season a 100-count wood humidifier box, it needs about 100 grams of water, which 4 Size 60 packs achieve. At most, the wipe-down method provides 2 to 3 grams of moisture to the interior veneer. (Think of it like staining a piece of wood with water.) By introducing 100% moisture to the surface, you can also warp the wood & set the stage for mustiness. YUCK! Using Boveda for Seasoning sets a cedar box up for success. Just slip Boveda 84 into an EMPTY box. Close the lid & don’t open the box for 14 days. After 14 days, open the box, remove the Boveda seasoning packs & discard them—they aren’t reusable.
