Innovating Science DNA extraction kit is used to study the history of DNA discovery and DNA structure. The kit helps develop student understanding of genetic inheritance, the role of DNA and proteins in genetic expression, and how to use biological detergents, enzymes, and ethanol to isolate DNA from plant material. For hands-on learning, the kit has materials for 15 groups of students, including 7.5% SDS/1.5% NaCl, pepsin, ethanol, zipper bags, filters, plastic tubes, graduated pipettes, and stirrers. The kit has a teacher’s manual and student study guide copymasters for instructional use, and a material safety data sheet (MSDS) packet for product information and handling procedures. The kit is suitable for age 13 and older with adult supervision, and conforms to 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.4 for domestic highway or rail transport only.
