About Training, Development, And Employee

The general objective of this study was to examine the effects of training and development on employees’ performance with specific reference to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA). The study adopted a quantitative and a descriptive survey approach. Respondents including staff and management responded to the questionnaires administered. A convenience sampling technique was employed to select the respondents who were chosen from selected departments of the company. The SPSS version 23 and Microsoft Excel 2010 was the statistical tool used to analyze data obtained. The study revealed that the staff at DVLA are trained and developed through orientation, on-the-job training, out-of-job training, refresher training and monitoring. Also, training and development programs have positive influence on the performance of staff. It was further revealed that the major challenge facing the institution is the implementation of training and development programs is inadequate funding, lack of management support and repulsive feedback from staff. Appropriate recommendations were therefore given.
