Gadfly Records is proud to announce the release of Ernie: The Songs of Ernest Noyes Brookings -- another installment of the oddball poet's lyrics paired with the music of unique and inventive musicians, including Robyn Hitchcock, Dave Alvin, The Figgs, and 12 others. Producer and Duplex Planet auther David Greenberger presents this fifth collection of works of the late poet Brookings who, at the age of 80, began writing his oddly observational poems (more than 400 of them!). The musicians contributing to 'Ernie' are: Josh Alan has released three albums and authored several books, including Tales of Times Square and Warts And All (with his brother Drew Friedman) Dave Alvin started the seminal roots rock band The Blasters with his brother Phil. After leaving the band he joined X briefly then embarked on a solo career. His 2000 album Public Domain received a Grammy award George Cartwright is a composer and saxophonist who has led the band Curlew since the early '80s. His song Baby features singer Sue Garner (from Fish & Roses, Run On, The Shamms, and solo work), pianist Myra Melford, and drummer Will Rigby (founding member of The dBs and currently drummer with Steve Earle) The Colorblind James Experience has released nearly a dozen albums, EPs and singles since its inception in 1990. Based in Rochester, NY, the group became a favorite on John Peel's BBC radio program, which led to European tours and releases Amy Denio is a prolific composer and performer. In addition to singing she plays accordion, saxophone, and bass guitar and has led or been a member of The Tone Dogs, The Danubians, The Billy Tipton Saxophone Quartet, and The Pale Nudes, among others Dryer is a trio from Saratoga Springs, NY; the group's third album was released in the fall of 2001 Dump is the one-man band of James McNew, who's also the bass player in Yo La Tengo Michael Eck is a mainstay of the Albany, NY music scene, ever since he appeared on the scene in the '80s with the band Chefs of the Future The Figgs have survived being dropped by two major labels only to get better with each subsequent independent release Michael Hall was the founder of the Texas band The Wild Seeds. He's released numerous solo albums since that group's demise, including his latest, Dead By Dinner in 2000 Robyn Hitchcock has been recording since the late '70s, first with The Soft Boys, then solo and with The Egyptians Banaglore is based in Boston and led by Phil Kaplan, previously of Men & Volts The Incredible Casuals have been together since 1980, recording and performing tirelessly. Their guitarist Johnny Spampinato has also been the guitarist for NRBQ since 1993 Love Camp 7 from Brooklyn, NY recorded two albums and assorted other tracks during the '90s Songs From A Random House has been creating music throughout the '90s, based in and around New York City Terri Templeton has been a singer with the band Over The Rhine and had her first solo album come out in late 2001.
