About Abaco, The History Of An Out Island And Its Cays

Product Description This expanded and updated third edition has new sections, and many revisions. This is the only general, comprehensive history of Abaco, Bahamas available; it covers from the geologic formation of the Bahama Banks to the middle 1990s. It is easy and interesting to read and reads more like a novel than a history text. Cover art by Randy Curry,; illustrations by Laurie Jones. 112 illustrations, photographs, and maps. Appendix on boat building in Abaco. About the Author Steve Dodge is Professor Emeritus of History at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Latin American history, and did his early research and writing on Venezuela. He is a sailor, and first visited Abaco in 1973. He soon became interested in the history of the area. During the late 1970s he began the research for the first edition of this book, and also built a summer residence at White Sound, Elbow Cay, Abaco. In addition to this book he has written "A Guide and History to Hope Town" (co-authored with Vernon Malone), "Modern Bahamian Society", and served as editorial advisor for "The Bahamas Index and Yearbook." Also, he is the principal author of "The Cruising Guide to Abaco, Bahamas", which is updated annually, and of the "Inlet Chartbook: Southeastern United States." He divides his time between White Sound, Elbow Cay, Abaco and New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
