About Coping With Dyslexia

Product Description Examines the nature, symptoms, effects, and diagnosis of dyslexia and the specialized help available for those with this condition. From School Library Journal Grade 6 Up-A book for those with reading disabilities as well as for the adults who work with them. After a discussion of what dyslexia is, the author suggests learning strategies to cope with it and lists assistive technology. She suggests strategies for applying to college and choosing a career. The last chapter gives brief bios of some famous and successful dyslexics such as Tom Cruise, Nolan Ryan, and Cher. The text is easy to read and concise. Points are illustrated with personal stories. This book contains more information than Pete Sanders and Steve Myers's Dyslexia (Copper Beach, 1999). Kay Marie Porterfield's Straight Talk about Learning Disabilities (Facts On File, 1999) is more complete, especially in the area of legislation, but the text is more difficult.
