About MNS V-belt Pulley 2" Outside Diameter, Size 3L

This pulley lets you connect a V-belt (Size 3L) to a model MY1016 permanent magnet scooter motor so that it can be used as a generator dynamo to make your own electricity. With respect to bike generators, this pulley is needed to have a system where a kids bike with 20 inch wheels can be used, or an adult bike with 26 inch wheels can be used. Many people prefer this flexibility when building their own bike generator system. The price for this pulley includes the material cost, and the labor involved in modifying the inner bore to fit the shaft of the MY1016 using a custom made alignment fixture. If you try and do this with a hand drill, you may have the problem of the pulley spinning way out of alignment. It’s not easy. This pulley comes with a set screw which works best when you have used a grinder or hand held file to create a flat spot on the shaft of the scooter motor. If you want be extra sure that the pulley will not come loose, then you can apply a few drops of thread locker to the shaft and set screw before you tighten everything down. There are two basic types of belts to use (1) An adjustable length V-belt also called “Powertwist” which allows you to lengthen or shorten the size of the belt by adding ore removing links . This belt is expensive but gives you the flexibility of using different sized bikes (kids / adults). (2) A fixed length 80” V-belt size 3L typically is a good size to use when using the MY1016 mounted on a bike trainer. One advantage a belt and pulley type bike generator system has over a roller style bike generator system is that it tends to be much more quiet and more efficient. You will appreciate this fact if you have ever heard how noisy a roller style generator can be!
