How to Remove and Install a Weir Gate Assembly This weir gate/flapper model has a hinged design. The weir gate is attached to an 8 ¼ inches by 1 3/16 inches hinge. The tab itself has 5 screw holes that attach to the skimmer. You may either replace and install the weir gate assembly from the top part or from the front of the skimmer (you’ll need to wade into the pool). 1.First, turn off the filter and pump. You may or may not drain the pool water during the installation process. 2.Take note that if you prefer not to drain the pool, you may need to install the weir gate assembly underwater which means that screw holes may not be visible. Use a short screwdriver to unscrew the old weir gate. After all the screws are removed, lift the old weir assembly up and away from the retaining tabs. 3.Next, position the weir assembly in the right orientation for operation and slide it down into the retaining tabs. Install the assembly with the smooth side facing the pool. 4.Hold the flapper assembly in place and install the mounting screws. Most installers use only 1 screw (installed on the center screw hole) but you can use any number of screws to secure the weir gate assembly. The weir gate will work as it should, no matter the number of screws used. To make the installation easier, you can use washers or tape to hold the screw in place during installation. Please take note that this weir gate assembly does not include screws. You may use your old weir’s screws, purchase the exact replacement mounting screws (part number 8650-8) or purchase 1/2-inch stainless steel screws for this purpose. You’ll also need a short screwdriver that will fit inside the skimmer unit.
