We use poly-carbonate crystals which is the same material used in bullet proof windows and eye lenses, very light and strong. Glass scratches & breaks easily, needs to be assembled one piece at a time, is heavy and costly. *Why NOT Glass? Gypsy Color set out to design the best possible drop-ship chandelier in the world, for the price you pay. We considered glass but discovered: Glass breaks easily. Each crystal must be individually packaged. Glass requires assembly one piece at a time. Complicated and time consuming assemble. Glass is heavy. Difficult to handle during installation, while on a ladder. Glass is expensive. More packaging, weight and breakage drives up cost for the customer. So, we decided to look for a better material. Our first requirement was to not compromise on “wow” factor or safety of chandeliers with glass crystals. We wanted a material that would allow us to ship our chandeliers folded flat, almost fully assembled, making it easy to take out of the box and hang in place. We also wanted far less packaging, weight, breakage and waste (cost) for our customers. We chose Polycarbonate (PC) “crystals” for many reasons: PC is stronger than glass. Very difficult to break and scratch resistant PC is lighter than glass. Easy to install, less waste (cost) in packaging & shipping. PC is made in a variety of colors. We’re all about colors and variety! PC allows for internal transmission of light. Nearly at the same capacity as glass. PC is safe. It does not “burn” and put off toxic fumes in fire, like other plastics. Gypsy Color polycarbonate “crystals” have many advantages over glass and other plastics, including acrylic. With our chandeliers, you can open a small box, do minor assembly and hang the chandelier within 30 minutes. This is primarily because we DO NOT use glass crystals. However, once it’s hanging, it will have a very similar look like glass and you will be one of the few who knows it’s actually much better than glass. Uses 1x40 watt or E12 chandelier bulbs (not included). This chandelier is 11 inches in diameter and 10 inches tall. Hanging instructions are included. Chandelier weight is 4 lbs.
