About Fail On Cue

Review Never count a solid band out of the game, even though you haven't heard their name mentioned in quite a few years. Such is the case with my fellow hometown Maryland boys, JIMMIE'S CHICKEN SHACK. I've sat back and watched as this band first broke onto the scene back around '95 and then released their major label debut, Pushing The Salmanilla Envelope, which garnered them a Top 10 Radio Hit with the single High in '97. Basically, the band was just a fun SUBLIME meets 311 by way of Bob Marley and heavy Hendrix guitar. Nothing fancy, just a really good, hard-working band who always put on a great live show. Then, as if the word somehow got out to some of my musical heroes, I started hearing people like Butch Walker and even STAIND's Aaron Lewis start throwing their name around in interviews and such. It was around this time that I actually started to listen more closely and check for clues that would make them more than just a 'fun band to play at your next outdoor kegger'. If ever there was an album to hear that maturity and talent, it is definitely their latest... Sure, Salmanilla Envelope is the one to pull out when you're ready to chill out and party it up, but it is very clear on Fail On Cue, the writing has tons of substance and punchy rolling themes. While you still get the reggae-influence on tracks like Caught Down and Mutha Luvas (contains the coolest line ever written, 'So, Get Mickey Mouse's Ass Offa My Radio, They're Just Pullin' Up Buckets From An Empty Well') and some heavy guitar chunk on 17 and Waiting Room, the album's biggest step ahead is contained in the chorus line of Another Good Idea. Major steps forward are achieved in that mere three-plus minutes. While this one will more than likely fall way under the radar just due to the state of the industry and lack of open-minds..., all I can say is that I, for one, will hang my head low if the music world doesn't enjoy the chance to experience this on that kind of technicality. --Craig 'Bam-Bam' Stegall, Away-Team.com Product Description No question Jimmie's Chicken Shack is one of the hardest working bands in the business having toured constantly since 1995. Between headlining their own tours in the US and Europe they've been out with bands such as Live, 311, Creed, Fuel and Everclear. They shared festival stages with nearly every major alternative rock band and many that disappeared without trace. Unstoppable, Jimmie's, or The Shack, as they are known to their fans, just released this eighth album, Fail On Cue, on Fowl Records. The bands first major label single, High, from the 1997 album Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope climbed the charts for twelve months eventually coming to rest in the top 10 of the active rock charts with heavy rotation in MTV's buzz bin. Do Right, Jimi's ode to an ex-girfriend from the second Rocket album, Bring Your Own Stereo was also crowned, buzz clip, by MTV and again took up residence in the alternative rock charts for a year resulting in yet another top ten hit and ultimately crossing over to top 40 playlists. There have been many changes in personnel over the years and this new lineup is the most powerful yet, drawing from the cream of mid-Atlantic bands. But the absolute has always been Jimi Haha's dynamic stage presence, his exciting, eccentric melodies, riffs and chord changes and his biting, often ironic lyrical take on life. It's all about the music and the performance for Jimmie's Chicken Shack who, despite selling millions of albums on major labels, will never bend to fit.
