About Novelty Records: Selected Subjects And Artists

Product Description The essays presented in this anthology explore the novelty songs phenomenpn. These articles, book reviews and CD commentaries were produced randomly over the past decade. However, when united in a single volume they illustrate the breadth and dynamism of America's unpredictable novelty tune culture. These essays probe a recording realm that is irreverent, iconoclastic, and humorous. Individual artists like The Big Bopper, The Capitol Steps, and The Coasters are highlighted; teenage fascinations with cars, clothing, dancing, dating, food, hairstyles, and summer fun are explored; Christmas comedy recordings and Yuletide creatures are examined; nonsense songs are studied; and Halloween tunes, coffin songs, and monster mashes are put under the musical microscope as well.
