About Going To California: A Classical Guitarist's

About the Artist "We all can recall at least one circumstance, event, or time in our lives which, for better or worse, changed our life significantly. One such life-changing event happened to me in the Summer of '77. It was then that my parents bravely decided to quit their jobs, pack up the dog and me, and leave the Midwest (Detroit, MI) for a better life in Carmel, California. Upon leaving Detroit, I gave my good friend Mark my drumsticks (I was playing the drums then). In turn, he gave me a copy of "Physical Graffiti" - my first Led Zeppelin album. In our new apartment I hooked up my Pioneer Stereo (complete with 8-track, naturally) and was exposed to some of the greatest music I had heard then or have heard since. That album, as well as other Zeppelin albums that followed, became part of the "soundtrack", if you will, to my life in beautiful California. To this day, after years of musical training in the classics and with many more years of living under my belt, California still evokes in my mind recollections of the songs on this CD. Whenever I visit the wine country to the north, drive along Highway 1 toward Big Sur, or walk along Venice Beach in Los Angeles, I think of this music. It's a personal thing, I know - perhaps a bit esoteric. Whether the music on "Going To California" calls to your own mind images of California or not, I just hope that you enjoy this wonderfully eclectic mix of Led Zeppelin songs that I have arranged for the classical guitar." Richard DeVinck has lived on the Monterey Peninsula for the past 26 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in classical guitar performance from UCLA. and has performed throughout California and taught guitar for the past 14 years. Product Description Going To California is an eclectic mix of some of Led Zeppelin's greatest ballads and acoustic hits, all arranged by and performed on the classical guitar by Richard DeVinck. Each song has its own unique character and musical origin - Blues, Rock, Celtic, Bluegrass, Classical, Indian. The entire CD makes for perfect ambient or mood music for dinner, a scenic drive, or overlooking the ocean from your hotel suite or spa. Going To California is also a perfect gift or amenity for those looking for a unique alternative to the usual new age or nouveau flamenco guitar CD. And, as the title suggests, the theme of Going To California centers on the artist's life in California. This is more fully explained in the liner notes, as well as a description of the unique qualities of each selection. Whether you are a Led Zeppelin fan or not, chances are you will truely enjoy the fine music on this CD. Review My wife and I stumbled across this CD at the Ventana resorts in Big Sur, which had them in the guest rooms for guest use. The guitarist is from Carmel and so must have given a set to the resort for this purpose. The CD is absolutely excellent. Richard is an excellent classical guitarist and your dinner guests won't notice at first that Zep is playing until they settle in. I've bought five copies of this CD now and each one has walked away with a friend. I highly recommend it. --M.B. Mayes - Southern California Richard DeVinck's single and multi-track accoustic guitar records (on this CD) of Zep classics make you remember why you love Led Zeppelin. Their music has a joyful magic at the powering each melody and an exhileration in the solos. This CD is one of the very few tribute albums that embodies the beauty and power of original artist's music. I have played this CD for about 3 years now and its freshness lasts as well as Zep's originals. Richard's playing is pure Jimmy Page rendered with firm and clear notes and flavored with a hint of DeVinck's classical training of the accoustic guitar. In this case classical training does not equal passionless, quite the opposite. Enjoy. --Russell Hall - Houston, Texas This cd was given to me by a client. I am a massage therapist, and it is perfect to do a massage to. So
