About Musicalische Exequien
Prince Heinrich von Reuss organized all the details of his funeralin advance, from the music to be composed and performed byHeinrich Schütz to the coffin. The program here includes not onlythe renowned Musicalische Exequien, but also other funeral motets bySchütz, one of which was composed on the death of his friend JohannHermann Schein. After the success of their CD of works by SamuelScheidt, Vox Luminis now takes up the challenge of one of Schütz sgreatest sacred works. The CD cover art is a photograph of the coffinthat Reuss himself ordered; Prince Heinrich XIII has generouslyallowed its use for this recording.
