About The Custom 1911

Product Description The 1911 is ambiguous as it is classic. The gun's mission changed over the years. Originally a military sidearm, the 1911 is now a favorite among law enforcement special operation units, military and competitors, as well as those interested in self-defense. While the basic design has changed very little, some brilliant people have advanced John Browning's classic and brought it into a new century. This book offers some amazing behind-the-scenes insight about the makers of Nighthawk, Kimber, Wilson Combat, to name a few. Great shooters like Julie Golob, Bruce Piatt and Chip McCormick shared their personal stories. Ted Nugent and Razor Dobbs also make appearances as 1911 hunters. These 1911 stars also shared their practical advice which Bill shares with the reader. Bill Loeb's writing style is concise yet sometimes irreverent, but always fresh and entertaining. From the Author It is doubtful that there is a gun that has had more words written about it than the 1911. Because of this, when approached about writing this book, I was reluctant. After all, what new did I have to offer? When I found, what I thought, was a new approach, I accepted and took on the monumental task of writing a book. Along the way I discovered is that while John Moses Browning was, in fact, a genius...genius loves company. Some amazing people came along after him and they are fascinating. Hopefully you will enjoy hearing the stories that, to my knowledge, have not been told before. They include why the world's most precise 1911 was created. (hint: it is not what you might guess.) How a watchmaker's son became the most recognized name in 1911s. You even get a peek into the life of one of the most discrete and honorable men in the gun community, While learning these stories, I also got some practical advice from some of the most prominent 1911 people in the world, and passed that along too. I hope that you enjoy reading the book. After all, you need to have something to do during cease-fires at the range. Carry On Bill Loeb About the Author Bill Loeb is a lifelong firearms enthusiast, having purchased his first gun at age nine. Firearms have always been a driving force in his life. His association with the 1911 began when he was eighteen when he bought his first semiautomatic handgun, a Colt Combat Commander. Currently, Bill enjoys all of the gun games, including IDPA, USPSA and Falling Steel matches. An avid reader himself, Bill has previously been published in a variety of newspapers and periodicals, and he also had a popular show on talk radio. Bill taught his daughter to respect and handle firearms at a young age and took her shooting with him before she was six years old. Understanding the importance of personal safety, Bill also teaches women and children self-defense.
