About Hornby Amtrak Acela NEC High-Speed Service OO

Amtrak celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2021 and have been a significant part of transportation across the United States for leisurely passengers traveling to over 500 destinations. The Acela runs the Northeast Corridor (NEC) of the United States and provides the majority of passengers as it connects commuting between major downtowns from Boston to Washington DC, accounting for 1/3 of Amtrak's annual passengers; 4 million users ride the Acela every year. Introduced to its route in 2000, the Acela became the first high speed rail in the Americas reaching up to speeds of 150 mph, but averaging 84 mph along its route over the heavily used railroad system in the country. The Acela is one of the only electric trains that Amtrak operates, using diesel among the longer territories. The Acela has created a safe, reliable and quick way to travel in a modern age in a classic way to travel, opening up a resurgence of commuting and development for the future.
