About The Man Who Laughs

1928-Silent-black and white-This is it! The forgotten Universal Horror movie written by Victor Hugo. In fact, the story line has many similarities to Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Conrad Veidt plays Gwynplaine, a man disfigured as a child to give him a permanent grin. Gwynplaine's look inspired the appearance of The Joker of Batman Comics. He joins a traveling carnival as a freak clown. Can he find love with the blind girl Dea (played by Mary Philbin of The Phantom Of The Opera)? Or will his life be ruined by the evil jester Barkilphedro?
