About Ars Goetia: The Lesser Key Of Solomon The King

From the Absinthe Publishing archives: ARS GOETIA (more appropriately entitled Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis, or, The Lesser Key of Solomon) was compiled by S.L. MacGregor Mathers and edited by Aleister Crowley. The work is a derivation primarily of John Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, published no earlier than 1570-80, and seems without many sources outside of Weyer's...suggesting it may possibly be an original work of his. The 72 demons of Goetia contain a fantastical hierarchy of kings, princes and lesser titles of what could loosely be termed "royal". Each demon controls its own legions and forces, and they are often evoked to do the bidding of the Magus after being commanded to appear within the Solomonic apparatus the Magus has formed. They are then bound, restrained and (theoretically, anyway) obedient to the Will of their Master. This classic work on the ritualistic aspects of Occultism is easily the most well-known.
