The route would take us through Japan to the ferry to Vladivostok. From 'Vlad' we would round the 'Bulge of China' to Mongolia – the last unroaded country. Weather, terrain, culture and much more besides would test us in every way, requiring skill as well as meticulous preparation. At the western extremity of Mongolia we would re-enter Russia for the 'Dash to England'. A fifteen thousand kilometre road trip across the largest continent on Earth in a twenty-one year-old Toyota HiLux that we had bought for just $1,500. Ultimately, the biggest test would be that of our friendship and whether it could survive twenty-four days and nights on the road…
