About Rembrandt As A Child
'Rembrandt as a Child' is a portrait of the artist Rembrandt as conceived by Mexican artist Jose Luis Cuevas (1934 - ). In a semi-abstracted style the portrait features Rembrandt in a large hat with a deep stare. Highlighted with strong black strokes over and in the background this aquatint etching is a dynamic piece. Cuevas has said that his drawing represents the solitude and isolation of contemporary man and man's inability to communicate. It is for this reason that he often distorts and transforms the human figure to the point of uniqueness. This print from 1988 is signed and numbered by the artist from a limited edition of 70.
