About Japanese Craftsman-Made Shinobue Bamboo Flute

The Japanese Shinobue bamboo flute is unique in that it has a high-pitched sound. The Shinobue flute is often found in Hayashi and Nagauta ensembles, and this instrument also plays an important role in kabuki and noh theatre. Authentic Shinobue bamboo flutes take an average of 4 to 8 WEEKS to make. You will see some being offered for sale for cheap prices. If you see a bamboo Shinobue flute for much cheaper prices under $49, it is mostly not authentic. We've even seen similarly-priced flutes claiming to be made in Japan by craftsman such as ours, but we've researched the sources and found them to be made outside Japan. Beware of imitators - cheap or similarly priced. A similar price does not mean it is authentic. We take the Japanese art form of flute-making very seriously, and we have extreme respect for each craftsman's hard work. As such, we do not like it when people are taken by false advertising, spending their hard-earned money on a flute that is not authentic.
