Thiers Issard's "Special Coiffeur" straight razors are excellent, entry level options from this historic, world-class manufacturer. The blade is half-hollow, giving a good compromise between the agility and feedback of a full hollow blade, and the sheer cutting power of a wedge, and is 5/8" of an inch wide. The blade is forged from 100% C135 high carbon steel, allowing it to take and hold a wickedly sharp edge, while the scales (handle) are made from high quality black plastic. The blade features Thier's "1937 Special Coiffeur" marque in black electro-chemical plating, jimping on the lower side of the tang for a sure grip, and the "TI" mark of authenticity on the tang. The razor is supplied in a black sheep's leather pouch. Overall, this razor is very manageable for a beginner, but made to such a standard that you will want to use it for a lifetime. A strop is essential for daily maintenance of your razor, and a shaving brush and shaving cream or soap is necessary to properly prepare your face for shaving with such a blade. Thiers Issard are based in the in the historic municipality of Theirs, which enjoys a reputation for cutlery similar to that of Sheffield and Solingen. Since 1884, Thiers Issard has enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as one of the world's best manufacturers of straight razors, with only Dovo enjoying a comparable reputation.
