Some of the definitions and explanations have been “dumbed down” and put into my own words to help you understand them better. EVERY BOAT IS DIFFERENT, AND EVERY ONE HAS UNIQUE CIRCUMSTANCES This guide is full of advice and suggestions based on experiences, observations, and research from me and other yacht industry professionals. These are general guidelines to help you gain insight and point you in the right direction, but there are many other ways to succeed in the industry that are not mentioned in this book, so I encourage you to take the helm and chart your course if you prefer. THIS IS A VERY PROFESSIONAL AND COMPETITIVE INDUSTRY The yachting industry is not just about partying and drinking. It’s incredibly professional, and the work is very challenging. If you think it’s going to be like an episode of Below Deck, you’re in for a rude awakening! You are about to get a lot of proper training and techniques that will increase your chances of getting hired, but I can’t guarantee that you’ll get a job. You must take action and be proactive to succeed.
