About Life Story Of Milarepa
Milarepa was a real person who roamed the northern slopes of Tibet's Himalayas 900 years ago. As a child, he was was cheated out of his inheritance by a vengeful aunt. He then became a sorcerer, adept at casting spells. Upon realizing the folly of sorcery, he strove to become spiritual, and thereby found a teacher, Marpa The Translator. Marpa treated his student badly, but there were justifications for that - as the story reveals. Later, through extreme fasting and seclusion, Milarepa attained complete spiritual enlightenment - every bit as splendorous as that attained by the Buddha. Milarepa is still revered in Tibet, as much for his skills at spontaneously writing spiritually poetic songs, as for his individualism and spiritual attainments.
