About Just Sustainablility: Technology, Ecology, And

Product Description Prominent ethicists from around the globe seek to deepen contemporary understandings of environmental sustainability, human flourishing, and the pursuit of justice. Just Sustainability is a broad-ranging study of the social, economic, and conceptual changes needed on a global level for all of life to flourish in the 21st century. As the play on words in the title suggests, these discussions of sustainability continually invoke the norm of justice, which has become a central part of Catholic thought and magisterial teaching in the contexts of economic development, technological innovation and environmental degradation. In the editors' view, any viable path to sustainability must also be just--whether as norm guiding policy decisions or in the development of a comprehensive ethics of ecology, concepts of justice and sustainability must mutually inform one another in the 21st century. As with previous volumes in the CTEWC series, this book offers the perspectives of scholars from a number of social, ethnic, geographic, and economic backgrounds, making it a truly global contribution to the increasingly pressing conversation around how to care for and live in harmony with our increasingly degraded planet. Review "This remarkably cohesive book introduces initiates to sustainability issues and suggests to experts avenues for further research." -- Religious Studies Review "A high-quality volume of articles, marked by a rigor of scholarship, as written by authors of repute in the field. The range of issues it treats is broad and comprehensive, as it is deep and critical, making the book an outstanding resource for studies in ecological science, ecological justice (ethics), and ecological theology and spirituality." -- Theological Studies "Provides an accessible introduction to issues of sustainability and Catholic responses to the ecological crisis. It will be helpful in undergraduate courses in religion and environmental ethics as well as for researchers interested in global perspectives and responses to environmental crises." -- Environment, Space, Place About the Author Christiana Z. Peppard is Assistant Professor of Theology, Science, & Ethics at Fordham University. Her scholarship focuses on epistemology, historiography, naturalism, feminist theory, theology, and ethics.
