About The Authoritative Reference On Buffalo Nickels

Product Description Buffalo nickels were struck from 1913 to 1938. This nickel series is considered to be one of the most collectible issues struck by the US Mint. Its unique design lends to its charm and popularity: the portrait of Chief Irontail of the Sioux tribe on the obverse and an American Buffalo or bison on the reverse. It is a small piece of history from a time that was rife with political, social, and economic growth. Walk along the pages of history in the newly added Date-by-Date sections in the Business and Proof Strikes chapters. Includes new information on rarity and striking characteristics for each date and mintmark, and population reports. Also new to this book are a large number of new Buffalo nickel varieties, among the hundreds already discovered - Doubled Dies, Repunched Mintmarks, Overdates, and 3-1/2 legged specimen. With hundreds of images, this book was written to aid the collector and to provide an invaluable tool to identify all the different varieties in their collection. About the Author Ron Pope - Ron has a keen interest in doubled dies and specializes in doubled die Washington quarters, Walking Liberty half dollars, Roosevelt dimes, Kennedy halves and Ike dollars, as well as the Buffalos. In addition to the Buffalo doubled dies, he collects most of the die polishing errors in the series such as the 3 legged and 2 feather varieties. Ron is also in the process of assembling a Mint State, full struck date set of Buffalos a tougher project than many might think. (The 1929 is very tough, and doubts persist if a 1931-S exists.) John Wexler - John has been a leader in the coin collecting hobby for decades. From publishing the Error-Variety News to a major role in the merger of CONE and NECA into CONECA. He has published The Encyclopedia of Doubled Dies, Volumes 1 and 2, co-authored a book about RPMs with Tom Miller and authored The Lincoln Cent Doubled Die book. Within the last decade, he has published The Complete Guide to the 1995 Doubled Die Cent Varieties, The Best of the Jefferson Nickel Doubled Die Varieties, and is a writer for Coin World. He is currently a member of the ANA, CONECA, SDDCA (The Society of Doubled Die Collectors of America), and LCS (Lincoln Cent Society). Kevin Flynn - As a student, Kevin received an undergraduate degree at Temple University in Computer Science, and a Masters of Engineering in Computers at Penn State. After a six years stint as an Aviation Electronic Technician in the Naval Reserves, Kevin became deeply involved with volunteer service and the American Red Cross. There he taught swimming, lifesaving, CPR, first aid, sailing, canoeing, and adapted aquatics. For the last 20 years, Kevin has worked as a Computer Programmer. After years of research, Kevin wrote his first book on coins, Getting Your Two Cents Worth. Now, twelve years since this first title was published, Kevin is widely known as one of the most prolific authors in the numismatic field.
