About JUNKYARD JOCKEY: The Biography Of A "Modified" Dream

JUNKYARD JOCKEY is a book about building a hotrod in the 1960's with a big dream but no money. Who wants to read this book? YOU DO, If you are a fan of hard work in order to reach a dream, auto mechanics that can make something out of nothing, and/or dirt track racing in the nineteen sixties and seventies. Carl brings the reader directly into his racing dream, his shop and right onto the track with him, as he designs, builds, races and wrecks his modified cars in Central Pennsylvania at Hesston and Port Royal, Speedway in the 1960s and '70s. In this real-life racing biography, (This really happened) he doesn't pull any punches as he tells you exactly what it was like for him and his "pit crew" buddies during those "Glory Days of Racing." Carl says, "Many other drivers may have been more successful, but none could have possibly had more fun." Lewistown, PA, Port Royal and Hesston Speedways are the setting for this fun-loving, brutally honest and, at points, sad racing biography. You will laugh out loud, get tears in your eyes for those lost in the sport and learn exactly what it was like back then to have a dream of racing but very little money. Times have changed in racing, and these hard-working dreamers are dinosaurs of the Dirt Track. Mark my words, you are going to love Junkyard Jockey. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the nonprofit corporation, Hometown Mentors, Inc. JUNKYARD JOCKEY is not a book about Pete Swarmer, but includes Pete’s driving influence and old race cars, in this long-ago conspiracy of youth who admired him so much.
