About Body Over Mind

Review "...funk IS alive ...gives reverence to classic funk with a modern & creative sound. A funk staple to my radio show." -- "The Upper Room with Joe Kelley" , WVOF 88.5 FM Fairfield, CT "...low-down earthy, groove layered, nasty, digital future FUNK, you just gotta dance to! ...Buy this record, kick back & dig!" -- FunkToTheMax.com "Freekbass is an artist poised to take back the word funk! ...Run to the store and get Body Over Mind." -- Bass Frontiers Magazine, Vol. 8, No.2 Product Description Turn of the century funk: a collection of nasty bass grooves with hip-hop, dance and rock influences. Executive Producer: Bootsy Collins. About the Artist The most glowing “Freekbass” testament comes from none other than bass-master, funk legend, Rock-N-Roll Hall of Famer, Bootsy Collins. In fact, the name “Freekbass” was ceremoniously given to the bass player, dubbed by Bootsy himself during a recording session. “Freekbass is the new spiritual warrior for the Funk”, Bootsy says. “I’m not a big fan of playing with myself, although I have been accused of doing so in the past ...this is the feeling I get when touchin’ bass with Freekbass.” Bootsy has collaborated with Freekbass on numerous projects, most recently on the current Freekbass CD, Body Over Mind, as Executive Producer. Bootsy also co-wrote tracks, “Hear Me Play” and “Freekbass 2YK”. In 1999, Freekbass put together a live touring group, including keyboardist/vocalist Beta-17, drummer/vocalist Swift, guitarist Sean McGary, and sax player “J”. While Freekbass was already known for his bass chops, it was the high energy live show that quickly won fans over. The combination of Freekbass' infectious grooves and the force behind these amazing players, word spread quickly about a show that is the true defintion of entertainment. In June of 2001, they released "Body Over Mind", an expression of nasty bass grooves, combined with influences of hip-hop, dance and rock. The album has received favorable reviews from the US and Europe, receiving recommendations from "Bass Player Magazine" and "Bass Frontier Magazine". Freekbass tours on, playing SXSW in Austin, CMJ in NY, House of Blues in Chicago, and Bogart’s in Cincinnati. They have opened for acts such as Nikka Costa, Digital Underground, Everlast and Liquid Soul. Their single, “Mission”, is currently being played on college radio.
