Jordana) collection sounds like a temper tantrum thrown by a particularly hyperactive child. 1.8.7. specializes in drum & bass served loud, cold, and unrelenting, with touches of breakbeat and house music. The combination is hazardous to a club-goer's sanity, as crazed cross-rhythms, dub bass lines, and well-timed transitions inspire both tireless energy and flailing dance-floor maneuvers. Still, despite the constant speed and abrasive pounding, the music doesn't deal in - or Squarepusher-style off-times, keying on four-on-the-floor patterns. It deals in workable mix material and danceable grooves, like a pitch-black companion to records by and other straighter-laced drum & bass mixologists. On soundscapes like "Pittsburgh," though, such comparisons ring hollow, as 1.8.7. digs deep with creative pacing and samples to erect towers of music all her own.
