About the Author Born in Strasbourg, France, in 1937, Jacques Kornprobst graduated from the University of Paris-Sorbonne and was a lecturer there until 1972. He has taught geology topics at several universities, including Paris University and Clermont-Ferrand University. His research interests include the mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry of mantle rocks Christine Laverne is a senior lecturer in geosciences at Paul C�zanne University in France. She has written numerous scientific papers and has illustrated two watercolor books about Normandy and Venice.
